Lean Into the New

What if God is actually doing exactly what you prayed for but it doesn’t feel like it because it doesn’t look like the steps or the path you imagined?

I’ve been meditating on Proverbs 16:9. It says “We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.”

The word plans in this context means an intention or decision about what one is going to do. It is a goal or an aim.

A few months ago, many of us made our 2020 plans. We declared victory with our mouths, created vision boards, and wrote out our desires.

I don’t know about you but when I make my plans, I immediately go into action mode (because faith without work is dead right?). And while I’m in action mode, I’ve already calculated steps 1-10 in my mind on how, when, where, and with who I’m going to accomplish the plans. Then when my life is interrupted and my steps are threatened, I am full of resistance and rebellionI can’t seem to get the steps that I created out of my head.

I was supposed to be with that person.

I was supposed to be at that job.

I was supposed to be in that city.

I was supposed to be making that salary.

I was supposed to get that deal.

I was supposed to get that title.

But notice in Proverbs 16:9 it says the Lord determines our steps—not us! God is in charge of the direction, the how, the way, the path, the route for us to achieve those plans, goals, and visions we desire.

Today I want to remind you that just because the steps you are walking in right now feel unfamiliar and unfavorable does not mean everything is over. The greater goal, plan, and vision you have is not cancelled—it’s actually in motion.

Isn’t it crazy how we ask God to do a new thing in our life yet when our world changes and looks “new” we freak out about the unfamiliar and the unknown?!

Today I want to encourage you to do the opposite. Let’s embrace all that is shifting and shedding in our life. Lean into the unfamiliar. Let’s lean into the unknown. Lean into the change. Let’s lean into the idea of something new!

Get out of your head the steps you made. They may or may not be the steps God wants for you. Instead, open yourself up to the present and the new things happening right now in your life. This type of surrender will birth a new kind of strength, peace, and destiny in your life.

The worship song of the day is Go by Fred Jerkins featuring Trin-i-tee 5:7. Let’s Go forward into the unknown and unfamiliar being confident in the One directing our steps.

XoXo,
